A New Favorite Book

I haven't been reading as voraciously over the past few weeks. Mostly due to my own writing schedule. But I did make time for a book a few weeks ago by an author new to me, Katy Regnery. I first saw UNLOVED on a few Instagram posts, and my reaction was hesitant. I'm about to be very honest here: This cover made me nervous, but the synopsis of the book sounded like something I would like. I was torn, and ultimately decided against reading it. (I know, insert every 'don't judge a book by the cover' line here.)

Time went by, I read some ho-hum books, and UNLOVED came up as a recommended book on my search list. So, I decided to take the plunge--and ignore the cover altogether--because the premise of the story really interested me.

Here's the cover...

Unloved, by Katy Regnery

Yes, guys. That is blood. But PLEASE, don't do what I did and judge the book by the cover because...y'all...the story inside took my breath away.

Okay, I don't want to get too dramatic here, but when I say that this book ripped my heart out and left it on my bedside table, I am only kind of exaggerating. There were times that I had to clench my eyes shut and hold my breath to calm the emotions rocketing around inside my chest. It was awful. It was beautiful. It was breathtaking.

Katy Regnery has a way with words that I haven't experienced in a long, long time. She's a word sorceress, unmatched to anyone I've read since Colleen Hoover's HOPELESS.

I don't want to give too much away. I really want you to experience this book the way that I did without knowing how this was going to unfold with an emotionally satisfying ending. But let me assure you that it does. It is very satisfying and happy and wonderful and amaze-balls. Cassidy Porter is a character I won't forget. He is so vivid and so real. His emotional conflict so genuine. Ugh. Can't say enough good things about it.

5-Star Read.

Curious? Here's the blurb:

My name is Cassidy Porter... My father, Paul Isaac Porter, was convicted twenty years ago for the brutal murder of a dozen innocent girls. Though I was only eight-years-old at the time, I am aware - every day of my life - that I am his child, his only son. To protect the world from the poison in my veins, I live a quiet life, off the grid, away from humanity. I promised myself, and my mother, not to infect innocent lives with the darkness that swirls within me, waiting to make itself known. It's a promise I would have kept...if Brynn Cadogan hadn't stumbled into my life. Now I exist between heaven and hell: falling for a woman who wants to love me, while all along reminding myself that I must remain... Unloved.

If you decide to read this, let me know your thoughts!

Happy reading! Amy
